Cut The Noise is a daily email news briefing and this website, cutthenoise.com. They are operated by BaseLocal, LLC (“Cut The Noise,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have over it.

By using our website or newsletter, you agree to the collection and use of information as this policy describes. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Newsletter sign-up: your email address.
• Contact and requests: what you include when you email us or make a privacy request.

We do not sell subscriptions or take payments on this site, and we never ask for payment card details.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the website, our hosting provider and we receive technical information such as your browser and device type, the pages you visit, the site that referred you, and your IP address (which can indicate a general location). When you open our emails or click their links, our email provider records those opens and clicks.

Cookies and similar technologies

This website uses storage in your browser that it needs to work, for example to remember your cookie choice and to carry your sign-up from the form to the welcome page. Today the website does not load analytics or advertising cookies from other companies. If we add them, we will ask for your consent first where the law requires it, through the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie choices in the footer.

When you click an affiliate or sponsored link, you leave our site. The company you visit, and the network that tracks the referral, may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

Your privacy choices

• Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page (also in our footer) to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for advertising.
• Global Privacy Control (GPC). We honor the GPC browser signal. If your browser sends it, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information for that browser.
• Make a privacy request. Email hello@baselocal.com to access, delete, correct, or get a copy of your information.
• Unsubscribe from emails with the link at the bottom of any edition. This is separate from the choices above.

How we use information

• To check that an email address is real before we add it to the list
• To show affiliate offers and sponsored stories, and to count clicks on them
• To run, secure and improve the website and the newsletter

How we share information

We do not sell your email address, and we do not give it to other companies for their own marketing. We share information with the service providers below so we can run the newsletter and the site:

• beehiiv sends the newsletter. When you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by beehiiv.
• An email verification service checks that the address you enter can receive email.
• Amazon Web Services hosts this website and our systems.
• Affiliate partners and networks. When you click an affiliate or sponsored link, the partner learns that the click came from Cut The Noise so we can be paid a commission. We do not send them your email address.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a merger or sale of our business.

Affiliate links and sponsored content

The website and the newsletter carry affiliate links and sponsored stories. On the website they are labeled “Sponsored.” In the newsletter they end with an asterisk (*). If you buy something through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See our advertiser disclosure.

• Get a portable copy of your personal data

We may need to verify your identity before we act on a request. We respond within the time the law requires, generally 45 days. If you disagree with our answer, you can appeal by writing to the same address, and you may complain to your state attorney general.

Limits on deletion. The right to delete is not absolute. We may keep information when the law allows it, for example to comply with a legal obligation, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to defend legal claims. Where we cannot delete something for one of these reasons, we delete or de-identify what we can.

CAN-SPAM

• We do not use false or misleading subject lines or sender information
• We identify advertising where it appears
• We include our mailing address in every email
• Every email has a clear unsubscribe link, and we honor unsubscribes within 10 business days

Children’s privacy

Cut The Noise is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have, we delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email hello@baselocal.com.

Data security and retention

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We keep your email address while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information, we do so within a reasonable time, subject to legal obligations.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Changes appear on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If you keep using the website or newsletter after a change, you accept the updated policy.
