About Cut The Noise

Cut The Noise is a free morning newsletter covering the news in the United States and around the world. We put the important stories in one place and explain what happened, why it matters, and what’s still unclear.

You shouldn’t have to follow a story for six months to understand today’s development. We give you the background you need, explain what changed, and link to the reporting behind it.

The details matter. A proposal isn’t a law. A court ruling may settle one question and leave three others open. An economic report needs a comparison, not just a large number in the headline. We keep those distinctions in the brief.

We also separate what happened from what people are saying about it. A statement from a politician, a company, or an advocacy group is a claim to examine, not a conclusion to repeat. When something is disputed, we explain the disagreement and the evidence. When something isn’t known yet, we say so.

Politics gets covered, but it isn’t the whole newsletter. We follow money and markets, world events, technology, science, culture, and sports. A change that affects your bills deserves attention even when it isn’t leading the national conversation. So does a development outside Washington.

Each edition opens with the main stories, followed by shorter items to get you caught up and a look at what’s coming next. Read the brief for the essentials. Follow the links when a story deserves more of your time.

Our job is to help you understand the news, not decide your opinions for you.
